The Valentino fashion house was created by Valentino Garavani in 1959 in Rome, Italy. Valentino himself was born in Lombardy, Italy in 1932 and at the age of 17 relocated to Paris to learn his trade as a fashion designer.

Valentino's big breakthrough came in 1962 when his collection made its international debut in Florence, drawing critical acclaim from those within the fashion industry and journalists alike. By 1967 his client list was of the absolute highest quality including the Aga Khan, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Elizabeth Taylor and Princess Margaret.
